Dear Parents,
I am thrilled to be teaching third grade at Eastern this year and count it a privilege to be your child’s teacher. It was wonderful to meet many of you at the open house, and I look forward to getting to know all of you throughout the year. Below is some information concerning my class this year, but please bear with me as things may be adjusted as I get used to the new building and new grade level. I have lots of plans, but we all know how plans can change!
Communication
We are all busy, so I will keep my messages as short and to-the-point as possible. I plan to communicate through the app Remind, which allows me to send and receive text messages. Those messages will be short, but there will also be a link to more detailed information. For example, a message might state, “Field Trip Tomorrow!” with a link to all of the details concerning the trip. Click here: https://www.remind.com/join/mrcoopers3 to sign up for Remind messages from me.
Snacks:
Please keep them healthy! Water bottles are fine to bring as well. Only water in the classroom, though!
Birthday Celebrations:
Eastern elementary school has decided to no longer allow birthday treats. This includes consumable items and trinkets or gifts. No need to worry! We will still celebrate and make your child feel special on his or her birthday.
Homework:
I know some families look forward to homework and some dread it. As a third grade team, we have decided to restrict homework to “strongly encouraging reading every night.” The kids work hard all day long, and they are encouraged to get outside and play hard when they get home!

This is my class website that I’ve had since I started teaching in TCAPS. It has a little bit of info about me and some useful links. I will use it to post videos, pictures, and information about what’s happening in the class. I will let you know every time it gets updated with anything important.
Lunch Money: If you send money with your child, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name and the amount.
3rd Grade SUGGESTED Supply List
Backpack: large enough to hold snow clothes, folders, books, lunch
(No backpacks with wheels, handles/frames)
Gym shoes: labeled and to be left at school
Two pocket folders
One plastic two pocket folder (Take home folder)
One wide-ruled spiral notebook
One 1” 3-ring binder
Highlighters
Colored pencils and thin markers
Pencils
Pencil box or bag to store items (I prefer the bag. It doesn’t break when dropped)
Ear buds (not bulky headphones)
Box of Kleenex for class
Disinfecting Wipes
Eastern Parents, I am truly looking forward to this year; not only because of all of the fun things I’ve got planned, but also because I look forward to working with you to provide the best learning opportunity for YOUR child. It’s going to be the best year yet! Please email with any questions!
Sincerely,
Tom Cooper

- My email is [email protected]. This is the preferred method of communication as I will be checking this daily.
- My class phone number is 933-5622, but it’s difficult to time it correctly where I can actually answer your call.
- Daily Communicator. You may send a note through this as well, but these are new to me and I might not be the best at checking them!
